Emily Through The Years | Emily Broadbent Photography

I am a BIG believer in family pictures at least once a year.  To some, that sounds like overkill, or not doable, or crazy.  Or maybe to some that sounds like a great idea! In theory. And actually making it happen…not so much.  You’re lucky to get one good family picture every 5 years.  Or once ever.

Now you may be thinking, of course you believe in family pictures, Emily, you’re a PHO-TOG-RAPHER.  But I’m about to get real with you.  Right now.  And share ALLLLL our family pictures over the past 10 years. 90% of them were major DIY moments.  As in pre-Emily Broadbent Photography.

You see, I haven’t always been a photographer.  In fact, it’s STILL hard for me to call myself a professional photographer sometimes.  Sometimes I feel like it looks like I woke up one day and decided to be a photographer.  And to be honest, when I look back at my work…it kind of does look like that! But we all start somewhere, right?

And for me, it really started a loooooong time ago.  When all I had was a point and shoot camera, and no desire to ever be a photographer.  It all started with me knowing family pictures were important.  And I made them happen.  Every year.  My only regret, is not actually hiring a professional!  And I swear I’m not just saying that because I actually take family pictures for real now.  As in professionally.  (Oh man, that was hard to say.)

My point is, I LOVE these pictures.  Even though looking at them through my experienced eyes today, I see A LOT of technical/compositional/posing/post processing problems.  I still cherish every single one.  And I could tell you exactly what happened during each “session”. Oh the memories!

I can’t believe I’m doing this!  Let’s start with this year, and work our way back…

Ok, I think I proved my obsession with family pictures.  But wait, there’s more!  All of these family pictures turned into Christmas cards each year!  And if you thought I loved family pictures, Christmas cards are a whole ‘nother level!

I LOVE Christmas cards.  I love sending them.  I love getting them.  I love displaying all the cards we get!  I even save them all every year!  Yup, crazy Christmas card lady right here!  But it’s so much fun pulling out the stacks of cards from over the years and seeing how all our friends and family members have changed and grown!

And guess what I found? Our Christmas cards from the past 7 years!  I’m missing a few, but this is just too much fun! At least for me.  If you’ve hung in this far, you’re probably related to me. And I love you 😉  And if you’re not related to me, bless you.  And Merry Christmas to all of you!

Stay tuned for more 2017 family pictures, AND our Christmas card!!!

It's about more than hiring someone to hold a camera and snap a few pics. Wedding photography is about capturing the joyful, bright, authentic moments of your big day in a way that beautifully tells the story of your love.

Your moments matter.
