My Love Story – Part 4: I Love You

It’s no secret that I love working with couples.  One of my favorite parts about meeting couples, is hearing their love story!  I’ve never heard the same one twice, and it’s always so fun to hear the excitement and feel the love they have for each other.  I also really love romantic comedies.  And Hallmark Christmas movies.  And, I’m not admitting to anything, but I hear Nicholas Sparks knows a thing or two about love stories.  Who am I kidding, “The Notebook” is one of my favorite movies ever!

Ok, but real life love stories are my absolute favorite.  I mean they’re real!  And real love is just about the happiest thing ever!  So, I had this idea…

I’m a real person.  And I’m in love.  And it all started somewhere.  So why not share my love story?!  From the very beginning to the right now. All of it.

Part 4: I Love You

Jesse bought me a taco on Friday night.  Our first date was Saturday morning, and our second was Saturday night.  Monday was Labor Day, and he drove to Santa Barbara to see me.  We spent the entire day together.  And that was that.  We were all in.  I don’t even remember if he every officially asked me to be his girlfriend.  I just was.  From that weekend on.

Somehow, we never let the distance bother us.  I spent a lot of weekends in Orange County.  He would come to Santa Barbara when he could.  We talked A LOT on the phone. Mostly after 8 pm, when it was free.

Jesse’s sister, and her husband and kids lived near him in Orange County, and I spent a lot of time with them.  We’d spend Sunday’s playing games with the whole crew, and then watching Desperate Housewives and Grey’s Anatomy.  Back to back.  I always drove home way too late Sunday night, and I have no idea how I managed to get to class the next day!  I’m convinced college students don’t need as much sleep as normal people.

I was falling in love with this guy.  Fast.

One night, we went to dinner, and then for a drive, and ended up walking around a park.  We had been talking all night about what we wanted in our futures.  And Jesse had informed me that, while he’d dated a lot of girls, not many of them lasted longer than three months.  We were barely past the one month mark.  And I could just tell something was up.  But in a good way.  It doesn’t really make any sense, but I knew he had something to say.

We got in the car, and Jesse just sat there, looking at me.  I’ve never been good at silence.  Or staring.  So I asked him what was going on.  And he just kept staring at me.  So I kept asking.  I practically forced the words out of him.  But, in a whisper, he said, “I love you!”

Remember that high school boyfriend I mentioned back in Part 1?  Remember my plan?  At some point I thought I was going to marry that guy.  But here I am, in a car with this guy, and everything was different.  I was different.  I’d grown up.  This was real.  And I felt it.

All of the sudden, my heart was racing a million miles a minute.  And I said those three words back.  And meant it.  From the bottom of my heart, I meant it. And I knew, my life would never be the same.

To be continued…
