The One About Me

You know how at the beginning of a new year is a great time to set goals and make New Year’s Resolutions?  Well I am the WORST at actually doing this.  I always have really good intentions, but then the next thing I know it’s March!

It’s March.  But I do have a goal, and since I’m putting it in writing, that means something.  Right? My goal for this year is to grow my business.  And as I’ve thought about how to make that happen, I keep coming back to blogging.  So really, my goal is to blog more consistently.  As a photographer, blogging all my photo sessions is easy.  But I want to push myself, and really put myself out there.

I feel like the best way to grow my business is to let people get to know me!

So, hi! My name is Emily.  I have no middle name, and I’ve always kind of loved that!  Growing up, my friends used to try and figure out what my middle name should be, and nothing ever stuck!  I like being just Emily!  I’m the oldest of 5, and I kind of own that role.  If you need a decision made, I’m your girl.  Even if you don’t, I’m still your girl!  I always have an opinion, especially about food.  I love food.  But I hate to cook.  But I’m ok with baking, because, cookies! (and brownies, and cake…).  I love to fill my house with people.  Thanksgiving is MY holiday, and the more people we can squeeze around the table, the better!  And more people equals more pie, so it’s a win!  Did I mention I love food?!  When I travel, the entire trip usually revolves around where to eat.

My husband and I have been married for almost 12 years! We met and fell in love in Southern California.  He won me over by singing and playing his guitar.  On the beach.  Ok, it wasn’t actually ON the beach, but I do LOVE the beach.  And my husband with his guitar!  He’s a smart man, and waited until we were engaged to tell me he felt like we should move to Missouri.  HA! Excuse me, where???  I eventually came around to the idea, and a week after we got married, we were here!  Washington, Missouri became our home, and we’ve never looked back!  It took my a couple years to finally admit it, but I’m a small town girl at heart.  And I love it.

12 years ago, I wanted to be an elementary school teacher.  After having a kid or two, I realized that was a terrible idea.  I just didn’t have the patience.  Teachers are saints.  I am not.  So I focused on being a mom.  With four kids the years kind of fly by in a crazy-diaper-changing-potty-training-snotty-nose-carpooling-temper-tantrum-sleepless-whirlwind.  Being a mom is ALWAYS hard.  But it’s also pretty dang awesome.

Somewhere along the way, my husband sold his beloved shuffleboard and bought me my first DSLR camera so I could take better pictures of our growing family.  And that was the beginning!  My husband loves to remind me that it all started because he “sacrificed” that shuffleboard.  What a guy. 😉

It's about more than hiring someone to hold a camera and snap a few pics. Wedding photography is about capturing the joyful, bright, authentic moments of your big day in a way that beautifully tells the story of your love.

Your moments matter.
