Hey future brides and grooms! If you’re dreaming of those breathtaking detail photos that truly capture the essence of your wedding, I’ve got a little secret for you to ensure you get those stunning detail shots AND potentially reduce stress on your wedding day.

I’ve had countless brides say they were so happy to have all the details of their day captured. You’ll absolutely love having these detail shots in your wedding album, preserving all the incredible elements that made your day uniquely yours.

Here’s the pro tip: have your photographer shoot details the day before your wedding. Intrigued? Let me explain why this approach can make all the difference…

Why Shoot Details the Day Before?

One of the most exciting aspects of a wedding is capturing the details that make your day uniquely yours. I absolutely adore photographing these special touches—trust me, it’s not just about the people, though they are fabulous too! Details, especially when color is involved, get my creative juices flowing like nothing else.

1. More Time for Creativity

The day of your wedding can be a whirlwind of activity. Between getting ready, last-minute touches, and the excitement of the ceremony, there’s often just not enough time to do your details justice. By photographing them the day before, I get the opportunity to fully embrace the creative process. I can style and shoot your gorgeous details to perfection without the stress of a ticking clock.

2. Less Stress on the Wedding Day

Imagine starting your wedding day knowing that the details are already beautifully captured. This frees up valuable time on the big day, allowing me to focus on capturing all those candid moments and the genuine emotions of the day. It’s a win-win!

3. Perfecting the Look

With an extra day to work, I can ensure every element—from the flowers to the invitations—is styled just right. This extra time allows me to make sure everything looks exactly how you envisioned it, with no rush or last-minute adjustments. Plus, it lets me experiment with different setups to find the perfect look for your photos.

What Types of Items Might Be Included in Detail Shots?

Detail shots are those special photos that capture the finer elements of your wedding day. These images focus on the beautiful, often intricate components that make your celebration unique. Here are some of the items I typically ask couples to bring along to include stylistically in detail shots:

  • The Full Invitation Suite: Invitations, RSVPs, and other paper goods that set the tone for your wedding.
  • Rings: Engagement and wedding rings, often photographed together or in special ring boxes.
  • Bridal Jewelry, Shoes and Accessories: Earrings, necklaces, bracelets, and shoes that complete your bridal look.
  • Ring Box: A beautifully styled box that holds the rings, adding a touch of elegance.
  • Family Heirlooms: Special items passed down through generations that hold sentimental value.
  • Extra Florals: Be sure to purchase extra flowers from your florist for your photographer to use for styling.
  • Perfumes and Colognes: The scents that will be part of your big day, adding a sensory touch.
  • Bowties/Pocket Squares: Stylish accessories for the groom and groomsmen that add a touch of flair.
  • Anything Significant: Items that hold personal meaning or add a special touch to your celebration.

Having these items ready ensures that nothing is overlooked and that we capture everything you’ve thoughtfully planned for your wedding.

How To Make It Work:

Here’s how we can make shooting detail photos the day before your wedding day happen:

1.Plan Ahead: We’ll set aside some time the day before your wedding to shoot all the details.  If you’ve hired a wedding planner, they will typically help gather all the details, including florals. If not, then you can work with your photographer to coordinate everything. I’ve found that one of the best ways to do it is to coordinate doing everything in the bride’s getting ready room, as she typically checks in the day before (if not 2 days before anyway.) This keeps things simple and convenient for the bride and groom as well as the photographer. This can work well even without a planner!

2. Gather Everything: Make sure all your details—rings, invites, decor, and anything else you love—are ready and in one place.

3. Let the Magic Happen: I’ll take my time styling and photographing your details, creating stunning images that reflect your style and vision.

Stunning Detail Photos & Less Stress On Your Day

So, there you have it! For stunning detail photos that will make your wedding album pop, consider having your photographer capture these elements the day before. This approach not only gives your details the attention they deserve but also allows you to fully enjoy your wedding day without the added pressure of having to remember to bring things the day of or last-minute photo sessions.
