Our Family Pictures at the St. Louis Art Museum

I’m a huge fan of regularly updating family pictures. At least once a year. Sometimes twice for us! I could blame it on being a photographer, and I’m pretty sure my kids do. But, I really just love seeing my family grow up! My kids look so much older with every picture taken, and it makes my momma heart happy to have every year documented.

I’m not your typical my-babies-are-growing-up-too-fast mom. I won’t tell you to hold onto them while they’re little, and cherish every single minute, because it flies by so fast. It does, and I definitely believe in lots of hugs, but I’m also a realist. Being a mom – being a parent – is straight up HARD. There are stages that I’m so glad are far behind us. There are current stages that I would love to be done with. There are future stages that terrify me (hello teenage years!). Then, multiply that by 4 kids, and 4 VERY different personalities, and it kind of makes my head spin.

BUT, I have these family pictures. From Every. Single. Year. And I’m reminded of all the wonderful parts, that I don’t want to forget. I see a family, growing up, together. We’re a team.

I’m a BIG believer in yearly family pictures.

Family pictures are one of the reasons I got into photography. I started with families. Eventually, I discovered that my photographer-heart was in weddings. But, I still believe, with all my momma-heart, in family pictures.

I get it though, the idea of family pictures, every year, can be overwhelming. It can be stressful figuring out what to wear. Especially when people start having opinions! It can be stressful during the actual photo shoot! It’s like kids suddenly become allergic to having their picture taken! And, don’t even get me started on dad. He can probably think of one million things he’d rather be doing. Trust me, we’ve been there. I’ve experienced it ALL.

But, I’ll let you in on a little secret…It’s ALWAYS worth it! It DOES get easier. Just stick with it.

And my best advice, to make the whole process as stress free as possible: find the right photographer. The right photographer will help you through all the stress points.  And you may even have fun! Find a family photographer, with a great reputation, that has a style of photography that speaks to you. That photographer will be worth the investment.

And, in the meantime, here are our 2019 family pictures! Thanks to Stephanie Marie Photography.

It's about more than hiring someone to hold a camera and snap a few pics. Wedding photography is about capturing the joyful, bright, authentic moments of your big day in a way that beautifully tells the story of your love.

Your moments matter.
